June 5th has been declared by the United Nations as the World Environment Day, in an attempt to make people worldwide realize how important it is to protect the environment we live in. As part of this awareness campaign, discussions, presentations and volunteer actions are held around the world.
As we all know, adapting an environmental- friendly attitude starts from a really young age. Various projects are held in schools with the aim of making their students active citizens that will try to put an end on environmental problems such as marine pollution, human overpopulation, global warming, sustainable consumption and wildlife crime. It is our goal as teachers to show the way, to give the necessary equipment and to render them sensitive in issues that influence only theirs but also the future generations.
This year has been really interesting for the students of the 3rd grade of the 4th Primary School of Karpenissi- Greece, as they take part in an eTwinning project, a major part of which focuses on environmental protection. The project’s title is ‘’ Drop by drop we all play our part’’ and it is carried out by students and teachers coming from seven different schools from Italy and Greece. All eTwinning partners plan and carry out collaborative activities, regarding issues that have to do with getting to know each other’s culture, internet safety, hygiene rules during this pandemic and of course ways of protecting the environment.
